what is reiki
I believe there exists one supreme being - the absolute infinite - a dynamic force that governs the world and universe. It is an unseen spiritual power that vibrates and all other powers fade into insignificance beside it. So, therefore, it is absolute!...I shall call it "Reiki"... Being an universal energy from the Great Divine Spirit, it belongs to all who seek and desire to learn the art of healing. - Hawayo Takata

How To Learn Reiki
Unlike academic or professional courses there is no fixed curriculae for learning reiki. There are three basic levels of training known as level I, level II and level III. There is no fixed time limit to learn or complete these levels. Its more of a guru disciple tradition. The guru or master decides if the disciple is capable enough of learning the reiki levels. It is another matter that nowadays some teachers are completing all III levels of training within a few weeks!
The Seven Chakras
Chakras are the nexus of metaphysical and biophysical energy residing in human body. They are the loci of life energy or "prana shakti" or "chi". The function of the chakras is to spin and draw in this Universal Life Force Energy to keep the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health of the body in balance. The earliest known mention of chakras is found in the Upanishads.
Reiki First Degree Training
Reiki level one is the first of three Reiki degrees. Reiki first degree prepares you for channelling Reiki energy. After learning this level you become a channel of reiki energy and can transmit reiki to other people through your hands.
The training period may vary from teacher to teacher. A typical Reiki I training session includes - information on reiki history, life history of Dr. Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and other prominent reiki teachers down the years, reiki principles, reiki hand positions, reiki healing techniques.
Reiki Second Degree Training
Reiki second degree (level two) prepares you for advanced healing. You will begin to transmit and receive more healing energy after completing this level.
Reiki second degree also opens the door to distant healing. You receive the ability to send healing energies to someone at a distance with Reiki second degree methods. This is accomplished with Reiki distant healing symbol which is taught in this level.
Reiki Third Degree Training
Reiki level three is the last of three Reiki levels(as per modern reiki training system).
This level is considered to be the master level. You become a Reiki master/teacher after completing this level. Now you can initiate other people to Reiki energy - you create Reiki channels.
Traditionally, it takes a minimum of 2 - 3 years of rigorous practice with Reiki II tools and principles, after which one can be considered for Reiki master level. Many Reiki teachers allow more than 3 to 5 years to pass before considering any of his/her students for mastership.
